Yes it is that time of the year again, and we are back with vigour.

Already we have seen a few great weekends of some good volleyball being played.

other things planned for this year are:

Week day evening training: (to start early May 2008)

Tuesdays - Womens Sessions (From 6pm)
Wednesdays - Partner Training (From 6pm)
Thursdays - Mens training (From 6pm)

Saturday - Courts being set-up from 11am
Sunday - Courts being set-up from as early as 8am

I also hope to be running the Barry Island Beach Volleyball Championships again this year along side a Beach Football competition and Foot Volly competition in early September, so note your interests and watch this space.

And not forgetting that we have been asked to host the Urban Beach Volleyball tour again in Cardiff Bay.

Tournament update - 04/08/2006
Hi everyone,

FINAL PLAYERS LIST
Thank you for registering for this year's competition.
Those teams who have not yet paid their entry in full will be asked to do so upon registration
and please, we prefer cheques to cash for security reasons.

CAR PARKING
Free Car parking will be provided on TOP of the HILL, Eastern Side, Barry Island (not the public Car park, though you may park there for £3 a day, and NOT on the promenade this year).Follow the red signs.

WATER
A limited supply of bottled water will be available to the players. Re-filling of bottles can be done
at any of the fresh water taps.
Outside showers are on site.

FORMAT OF PLAY
The format of play for both DIV A & B will be pool play with play-offs on Saturday and semis and finals on Sunday. The pools are seeded according to the official EVA rating after Croyde, Poole, Exmouth and Weymouth tournament. A plate will be organised on Sunday.

In the pool plays, we will play best of 3 sets with the first 2 sets to 21, capped at 23
and the 3rd set to 15, capped at 17.

A hardcopy of your Division pool games with approximate timing will be given to you upon registration.(one per team).

TIMEKEEPING
Registration on Saturday will be at 9:00 sharp, followed by a short players' meeting at 9:15
and we intend to start play at 9:30. Please help us with the smooth running of the event and don't come late.
We have implemented a system of penalties for delay throughout the tournament in order to keep things on track.

REFEREES
The match programmme includes detail of who is refereeing. We will also announce over the tannoy which matches are up next and on waht court. A pool of courts has been allocated to each pool of players, so you should now when you are on next. Please note that penalties also apply for delays from designated referees.
Any discrepancies or disputes must be directed at tournament officials only and not at other teams or players. Decisions from the tournament Dierctor are final.

HOUSEKEEPING
Each Division (A/B/Men/Women) will have a designated colour-coded registration area where you will be given a vest/top per player, a goodie bag and a programme.
Vest and tops provided must be worn during play. No shirtless play please.

PLATE
We plan to organise a men's and mixed plate on Sunday (Div A+B together). We usually do not get enough women teams left to play a plate, so women teams should consider finding men partners if they want to play on Sunday.
Should there be more women team than mixed teams registered, we will go ahead with a women plate instead.
REGISTATION FOR THE PLATE WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY BY END OF PLAY.
No registration on Sunday, sorry. We have to organise the courts and still run the main competition.

PRIZES
There are prizes for Place 1 to 4 in DIV A and 1 to 3 in DIV B (Men and Women).
Due to the fact that we have a commitment to our sponsors, our policy is to only give the prize to
the members of the teams in person at the presentation on Sunday (around 5pm).
I.e., if you are in those places and want your prize, you have to stay until the end.
No exceptions.

PHOTOGRAPHY
We will follow the guidelines from the EVA on child protection and register people who want to take photographs during the event. We have an official event photographer who will endeavour to take pictures of most participants and show them on a website gallery.
Please note that by participating in our event you consent to your picture being taken. This might be used in our marketing material.

PARTY ON SATURDAY NIGHT!
A Saturday Party has been organised (free entry before 10pm) and a room booked at the exclusive venue of Tiger Tiger in Central Cardiff, Greyfriar Road, off Queen Street. Maps with direction will be available on Saturday.
NOTE: The venue's dress code is quite a strict "smart casual", so no sandals, trainers or shorts, otherwise, you might not be let in.

If you still have some questions, don't hesitate to contact us, otherwise, looking forward to seeing you all on Barry Island!

Yours

Carl Harwood & Valerie Barrett (Event Organisers)
